MS/HS Art + Photography Summer Workshop
MS/HS Art & Photography Workshop
Art Instructor: Leslie Tharp
Photography Instructor: Jennifer M. Ramos
Ages: Rising 6th-12th grades
We know that artistic teens are looking for an opportunity to further develop art skills over the summer, and this one week workshop is the chance to do it! The mornings will be led by photographer Jennifer M. Ramos who has been leading photography camps in Wimberley since 2013. Not only are her classes really fun and creative, but students come away with a wealth of knowledge about perspective, an individual way of seeing, portraiture, lighting, editing, and composition. She will lead student photographers on morning photo walks around downtown and on nearby nature trails with creative instruction, and follow them up with discussions of the previous day’s images using a shared class album.
Art will be led by our very own WISD art teacher, Leslie Tharp, who teaches at Danforth Jr. High. In the afternoon students will continue their visual adventure where creativity knows no bounds. They will dive into the intricate world of drawing, mastering lines and shapes and using their new photographs as inspiration. They'll elevate their artistic horizon with three dimensional art, turning imagination into tangible marvels. Join us for a transformative experience, where art becomes a journey of self-expression and discovery.
Please bring/wear the following each day:
- a reusable water bottle
- two healthy snacks and a sack lunch
- wear art-friendly clothes (we also have art shirts available)
- wear footwear that is comfortable for morning walks and trail-appropriate
- digital camera of choice that the student is already familiar with (smart phone, DSLR)
What makes this teen ARTSPACE workshop unique? Like all of the classes we offer, we keep the student-teacher ratio super low and this allows us to dive deep into our subjects, to curate a peaceful and enriching learning environment, and to take our knowledge of the subjects we're learning to the next level. We aim to offer the kind of summer programming we wish we could have attended when we were teens, where the experiences and the learning take center stage in a micro class that doesn't feel overwhelming. We hope you'll join us!
