Artists, Authors & Illustrators
Artists, Authors & Illustrators
Art Instructor: Leslie Tharp
Author/Illustrator Instructor: Jarae Porter
Ages: Rising 1st-3rd Grades
These kiddos may be young, but they'll be able to add author, illustrator and artist to their resumes after this week of fun! Our very own Danforth Jr. High art teacher, Leslie Tharp, will lead the art sessions with a variety of engaging 2D & 3D projects throughout the week. The kids will have their hands in clay, ink, paint and more, so plan to wear art-friendly clothes each day. Jarae Porter, a 4th grade teacher at Jacobs Well Elementary will teach the kids what it means to be authors and illustrators as they study the collage artistry of favorite author/illustrators Eric Carle and Leo Lionni and create thier own book of Hill Country animals based on these styles. So. Much. Fun!
Please bring/wear the following each day:
- a reusable water bottle
- two healthy snacks & a sack lunch (please no candy/sweets)
- wear art-friendly clothes (we also have art t-shirts available)
- wear socks and sneakers that fully cover the feet for walks to the creek
What makes ARTSPACE camps unique? Like all of the classes we offer, we keep the student-teacher ratio super low and this allows us to dive deep into our subjects, to curate a peaceful and enriching learning environment, and to take our knowledge of the subjects we're learning to the next level. We aim to offer the kind of summer camps we wish we could have attended when we were kids, where the experiences and the learning take center stage in a micro class that doesn't feel overwhelming. We hope you'll join us!
