3rd-5th Art + Ukuleles - Summer Camp

3rd-5th Art + Ukuleles - Summer Camp

Art Instructor: Jennifer Ober
Ukuleles Instructor: Wilson Marks

Ages: Rising 3rd-5th Grades

School's out but ARTSPACE is in session. Kids love this camp, centered around high-quality visual art projects and learning (or progressing on) the ukulele! Join TX certified art and music teachers, Jennifer and Wilson, who bring years of high-quality fine and performing arts education experience to the ARTSPACE classroom. Jennifer will lead students through a variety of art media (including clay) with a focus on figure and portraiture, as well as create one artwork featuring music and/or musicians in art. Wilson will teach students how to play the ukulele as well as explore drums and other percussion instruments. Throughout the day, students will break for outdoor and social time. You'll be blown away by the art the kids create and the songs they can play on the ukulele by the end of the week!

All projects are specifically designed to accommodate students of all skill levels and can be adjusted accordingly to meet each student's specific needs. No prior art or music experience is needed.

Note: a ukulele can be provided on loan during the duration of the camp.

Jennifer, a graduate of UT Austin with a BFA in Studio Art, added her TX teaching certification in 2001. She taught K-6 art in Austin ISD for 10 years, earning Teacher of the Year in 2007. Upon moving to Wimberley, she began offering summer camps and after school art classes out of her private studio and taught K-12 art at Hill Country Academy in Dripping Springs. These days, she donates her time to projectART as a founding board member and regular instructor.

Wilson piloted the Maplewood Ukulele and Drum Choirs in Austin and currently teaches general music in Hays CISD. He’s worked in public education for over 16 years and is an active performing or session guitarist and singer songwriter / sideman around and beyond the Austin area, often playing with his trio, the McMercy Family Band, Matt the Electrician, Jitterbug Vipers, and more.
