Layers & Loops
Paper Quilting, Collage and Crochet
Rising 6th-8th graders
June 29-July 3, 2026
9:00am-3:30pm
12 students
Jennifer Enloe & Dee Dee Carleton
Class Description:
In this camp, students split their time between crochet and paper quilting/collage. Each morning Jennifer will work with students on paper quilting and collage, they will experiment with layering, pattern, and composition to create bold, textured designs. Dee Dee will take over in the afternoon to teach the single crochet stitch while discovering why crochet is a uniquely handmade craft that cannot be produced by machines. Projects may include crocheting with yarn made from recycled t-shirts, small amigurumi animals, and decorative motifs such as stars, hearts, and flowers. Throughout the day, students will break for outdoor and social time. This combination of classes will emphasize sustainability, thoughtful making, and the value of art created by hand.
All projects are specifically designed to accommodate students of all skill levels and can be adjusted accordingly to meet each student's specific needs. No prior art experience is needed.
Teacher Bios:
Jennifer Enloe has been teaching art for 25 years, to elementary, high school, and college students. She has her BA in art and MA in teaching from Austin College.
Dee Dee is currently a high school teacher at IDEA College Prep in Kyle Texas. She teaches AP Environmental Science. Her three main passions in life are science, education, and art. She is always looking for opportunities to mix the 3, from her time studying science education in her M.S. program to her classroom. She has always been artistic, and in her spare time she is always drawing, sewing, crocheting or learning a new art form.
