Ceramics and Elevated Nature Journaling

Rising 6th-8th Graders

July 20-24, 2026

9:00am-3:30pm

12 Students

Laura Greene & Dee Dee Carleton

Class Description:

Students will explore ceramics and elevated nature journaling in this hand on class. Mornings with Laura will focus on hand building clay work, learning different techniques to make both functional and decorative pieces. Dee Dee will spend afternoons with the students, creating handmade, mixed-media nature journals from recycled materials. Through local field observation, species identification, data collection, and observational drawing, students connect artmaking with ecology and environmental awareness. Throughout the day, students will break for outdoor and social time. You will be astonished at how expressive our middle school age students can be!

All projects are specifically designed to accommodate students of all skill levels and can be adjusted accordingly to meet each student's specific needs. No prior art experience is needed.

Teacher Bios:

Laura is a professional artist with over 20 years teaching experience. She currently offers private lessons and is a regular projectART instructor.

Dee Dee is currently a high school teacher at IDEA College Prep in Kyle Texas. She teaches AP Environmental Science. Her three main passions in life are science, education, and art. She is always looking for opportunities to mix the 3, from her time studying science education in her M.S. program to her classroom. She has always been artistic, and in her spare time she is always drawing, sewing, crocheting or learning a new art form.
